What is Voskle Live Transcribe?
Voskle Live Transcribe is an app for smartphones and tablets. Currently it is only available for Android, but a version for iOS is under development.
Voskle Live Transcribe simplifies communication with deaf and deafblind people by transcribing speech to text in real-time. It is similar to a phone's dictation but transcribes continuously, making a lengthy, uninterrupted conversation possible.
Why should I use it?
Strong emphasis on accessibility
Tim Böttcher, one of the developers, is himself legally deafblind. Hence, accessibility with TalkBack and refreshable braille displays is a core feature. We attempt to make it accessible to people with other vision impairments as well and keep the user interface as simpe and clean as possible.

Only what is needed
The app supports transcribing in more than 20 different languages. However, only the language models which you actually use get downloaded to your device.
Completely offline
The transcription only occurs locally on your device. An internet connection is only necessary to download a language model. Afterwards, no connection is needed and no data gets sent to any servers.
Free and open source
The apps are open source (source code for Android) and completely free---no ads and no pay walls.
Decent transcript accuracy
The fact that the transcription occurs offline means the accuracy of the speech recognition is not excellent, but in many conversation scenarios the quality of the transcripts is good enough. Our main goal is to enable communication with people who do not know lorm or speak sign language and to simplify conversations overall.
You can improve the transcript quality further by connecting a noise-cancelling microphone to your device.
